Appointments

Appointment times vary, depending on what the appointment is for.  Generally, an initial appointment is 20 minutes.  This allows the vet ample time to thoroughly examine your pet, discuss treatment options and costs, and to do what is needed at the time, for example take a blood sample or clip your pet’s nails. If you are unable to keep your appointment for any reason, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can offer the appointment to another client.

In order to fulfil Health and Safety regulations, cats and other small pets must be brought in to the practice in a basket or suitable container, and all dogs must be on a lead.  If not, you will be asked to place your pet in one of our baskets or on one of our leads.  These regulations are for your pet’s own safety.

Emergencies

In case of emergency, contact the surgery immediately.  Emergencies are always given priority.  Outside normal opening hours please telephone the surgery and you will be given instructions on how to contact the duty veterinary surgeon.  Please have a pen and paper to hand.  In case of an emergency, please do not give your pet any human medication as first aid unless you have been asked by a veterinary surgeon to do so.  Many human painkillers like paracetamol or ibubrofen can be poisonous to cats and dogs.

House Visits

House visits can be made in certain circumstances, by prior arrangement.  There is an extra fee for this service, and often we encourage you to bring your pet to the surgery rather than have a house visit, as in many cases we need to make use of the facilities and equipment  only available at the practice, like the laboratory, X ray machine and so on.  If you need a house visit, please give us as much notice as possible to arrange this.
